What makes "Memories"?

It is odd, what we discover, as LIFE moves on! And what I have come to believe,

no, what I have come to understand AND believe,

is that “memories” are not merely a thing

the mind “remembers”...but what the soul has felt!

How do I know this, which is really only MY truth. I know, because in my entire art career,

I can remember the smallest almost UNIMPORTANT events. And yet major events I have traveled thru,

in my career, the ONLY memory I have of them, are the paintings I’ve created, that PROVED “I was there”!!

Other than that, unless I find a journal or somewhere that I shared these “events”

in written word, to a friend or elsewhere, I have zero memory of it!

Back years ago, due to this, I actually asked to have a BRAINSCAN ...done in one of those HUGE machines

at the hospital! And I had to call, to find out the results!

And was told in 4 words: “O, nothing showed up.” and they hung up!

When did I fully realize this, enough to share it? About 20 minutes ago!

What “makes memories”?

From the depths of me, memories are anchored in my mind,

when we can SHARE those events with friends, verbally ...

sharing what we saw and felt.

Over my entire career,

after I did the nat’l ads that first promoted PLEIN AIR in the USA, back 1987 thru 1996...

I can remember those 10 years, the many trips to Catalina Island, painting for 2 weeks!

Yet, since then, I’ve traveled to Oaxaca Mexico, Venice Italy, and a few other places.

And what memories do I have?

ZERO!

But for the paintings I captured in those places

that PROVES I WAS THERE!
