In all of my Native American pieces,
I totally create the backgrounds to reinforce a mood or feeling.
If you have ever been to a celebration (commonly called a "pow wow"),
you will realize that the background of any rider is anything but "romantic"
...with trucks replacing horses, and other "modern" images.
However, these paintings are still TODAY...not even trying to be from the "past"...
I feel that this NOW is history...because next year or ten years from now,
this will no longer be the same! I want to capture
the beauty, the spirit, and the colors of TODAY. I just choose to leave out
the sunglasses, cigarettes and trucks!
