Mt. San Antonio College (MT. SAC) Exhibition |
| 6x16 foot Mural for the Founders Hall, Mt. SAC Walnut CA |
Mount San Antonio Junior College contacted Billups early in 2007
to create a mural
for their
Founders Hall on the campus. Since she prefers to work en plein air,
Billups traveled to Southern
California in order to create this mural.
She drove over 100 miles in the city limits that
had partial views of Mt. SAC,
a peak in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California.
She
finally found a roof parking lot, along the interstate freeway,
where she painted the entire
mountain range as the canvases laid on the ground!
However this "event" did not go
unnoticed!
As she was laying out her 16 feet of canvas, one of the guards from the building
cme up on the roof to see what she was up to!
As he explained, no one was allow on the roofs
because of security (not for the building,
but for possible drive by shooting!!!
Needless to
say, they finally gave her clearance,
so that she could do the entire painting (of the mountain
portion),
from their roof top!!
The clouds she created from over a dozen
studies she had brought with her, from her home in the Northwest,
and the Eucalyptus trees were
gathered from all over the county, digitally, and recreated in a friend's studio!
Billups
enjoys accepting large commissions that require local subjects!
This mural measured 6x16
feet.
