| Afternoon Storm Clearing 8x10 PLEIN AIR PAINTING |
The original of this piece was an 8x10. The wind was very powerful this day, and the moment I saw these awesome cumulus clouds, I barely had time to capture them.
The only thing that I found more difficult, was making this larger version...keeping the integrity of the palette knife and thickness of the spontaneous clouds!
Spontaneous, to the affect of taking me hours or painting, scraping, and repainting, to give the impression of "spontaneous"!!!
The simplicity of these clouds were a blessing and almost out of my control...due to their fast pace. I could not doodle, and "messed around" and thus destroy that beautiful simplicity.
As a water color teacher once expressed: "don't lick it to death!" Well, that can apply to any painting, not just water colors.
A larger creation of this was done for the Butte Show in August 2003. It is 18x24, and can be viewed at Mountain West, near the Long Bridge, in Sandpoint Idaho.
