If you ever visit north Idaho, we have many cloudy days...
I think that we have sun only on the days that
Arizona has clouds!
Or at least it's about that proportion!!
When I set up a photo session in Coeur d Alene with the daughter of a friend and her girl friend, I was "stuck" with a very heavy overcast day. The results, I had no shadows to work into my paintings. The way I solved it, was to keep the figures in the shadows, and to create this "illusion", I placed the background into sunlight...another art principle:
playing opposites against each other.
