I was granted one, of five Artists in Residences for the year 2001. It was absolutely awesome! To wake up and have absolutely nothing to do, but paint! From sunrise to sunset, from all areas outside of the park looking in, from the East entrance at St. Maries, along Going to the Sun Road (7 times!) to the West entrance, from Two Medicine up to Polebridge...in storms and winds and almost "too" sunny days, I was over whelmed!
Now, I need to go back and do another two years, of all the places I didn't get to!!!
In all, I created 35 plein air paintings (ranging from 5x8 inches to 16x20). I only photographed my last day, leaving the West Entrance and retracing my journey of two weeks before, returning to the West Entrance...almost exactly 200 miles!
The reason I did not do any photography, was that I figured if I wanted to "take it home", it had to be a plein air painting...for sometimes the camera can steal the adventure and discovery of the view in front of us...all my discovery was on my canvas!
I hope you enjoy my journey! And I hope I did the park justice!
