Sunrise Upon the Shore
Plein Air Painting
Well out side of being a "shore line"...not sure where?!?! Looking at the trees on the
hillside, and the distant horizontal line across the water...had to be some where in the
NW...without those two things, almost looks like an ocean shore line! BUT, the art is what counts!!! LOL!
When LIFE will not hold still, as with a sunset, you have to be very observant, and quick on mixing colors, and values, in order to not loose the entire scene. As in the "old days" when they came up with the word: "Impressionism"...that is exactly it: THE IMPRESSION of what you see, and your soul remembers!"
AND if you are observant of not only the view, but also of how you are feeling toward that...how to soften edges, or keep values close together, or separate shapes due to what is happening in front of you...THAT is what makes me, as an artist, who I am! I want the "impression" of what I both SEE and FEEL, to be expressed with the paint I use. If I miss, well, then that panel just gets "toned" ready for the next painting, by wiping it off!!! The way I look at it, if you want "more" then take a photo...or if you want "emotion"...use your heart and your hand, and FIND the beauty!!!
