ART GALLERIES & BUSINESSES THAT EXHIBIT BILLUPS' FINE
ART
Over the last 38 years Billups work could be found coast to coast,
from small towns like Hermosa Beach California, to the larger art centers
like Scottsdale Arizona and Denver Colorado.
In recent years, she has pulled most of her work back
closer to her home grounds, in the Northwest!
AND, in order to be observed by those more than likely
NOT TO GO INTO SOME BIG TIME GALLERY experience (which sometimes can intimidate some Americans)
...she has chosen to reach out to a venue more accepted by, and easier for the average American to walk into, or visit!
In her home town of Sandpoint Idaho,
Billups work can be seen in the following places of businesses...
| HOME SWEET HOME ANTIQUES
208-255-1818 BONNER MALL OPEN 7 DAYS, SUNDAYS 11 to 4
On the
northern edge of the town
of Sandpoint, located at the base
of Schweitzer Ski
Mountain, lies a small, intimate shopping center, which is the home this wonderful Antique
Store.
Along with the many fine treasures of
"yesteryear" this wonderful space also is the home for many of Billups' original paintings, ranging
from this image, created from her sojourns to Ireland back in 1997, to large and small paintings of
all subjects from horses, to her famous Women in White. Also on display are many of her
fine art prints, along with some gorgeous beaded items, that reflect Billups' great love of
color.
HOME SWEET HOME is open 7 days a week, for convenient viewing of her wonderful
original oils!
And on the other end of the town of Sandpoint, on the road going west, is a small custom
shop, called
PANHANDLE ART GLASS
CLOSED: Sundays and Mondays On Pine, between 5th and 6th
Street 208-263-1721
that
specializes in Glass of all sorts of
creations: from Church windows, to home interiors, to vases, gorgeous dangles for any window
trimming!
Not a lot of wall space here, but being an intimate space setting for this
summer season there is a select group of originals that all deal with STILL LIFE! AND also,
the owner has one gorgeous mini-mural of A SLICE OF LIFE... a view of one of the many lakes
in North Idaho...
| | | SACRED DANCING CASCADE, GLACIER
| Heading west of the above Glass Shop, staying on 704 Pine Street, is a wonderful family
owned paint store:
THE PAINT BUCKET Open 6 day 8-4 208-263-5032
The owners grew up in Sandpoint, and Harold
and his Father, both great photographers, have a wonderful display of framed photos in an
upstairs gallery. Harolds' Dad was a contemporary of Ross Hall, who is kind of the resident
(tho deceased at this time) photographer, of the early days when Sandpoint was just
"beginning"...
Any how, Harold and his wife Liz, built this wonderful building, with a
great gallery area upstairs... which now also exhibits MANY OF BILLUPS' ORIGINALS!
Ranging
from plein air pieces, to Floral Still Life, to her Women in White, series. There are also a few
pieces on display, from when Billups use to paint on Catalina Island with the world famous
PLEIN AIR PAINTERS OF AMERICA.
Billups was the ad chairman for PAPA, from 1986 to 1996,
and over the original 10 years, she did all the national advertising, 3 magazines a
month...which helped establish the great "plein air art movement" that has been extremely popular
over the past 20+ years.
THEN GOING EAST, out of Sandpoint, toward the Montana border, is a really small gallery,
just west of HOPE IDAHO...
THE BARANSKI STUDIO GALLERY
David, a nationally
known
sculptor, and invites Billups to his studio each summer to share her creations with local
folks and also those who come up for the summer, who enjoy the great Northwest.
Then in
August, there is a really special event that takes place thru out this area called
THE ARTIST
STUDIO TOUR (ASTI)
This special two
weekend exhibition, opens all the artists' studios of
this area, to the public (there is a map for locations)... however, Billups studio is so far out
of the locale, and almost impossible to find (without a blood hound)...that David has
invited her to exhibit her work in his studio...and during these two weekends in August, which
are the only 4 days Billups will be at the gallery, painting en plein air.
She will also
have available many unframed paintings at greatly reduced prices (starting under $50)...also,
L.E. Prints and special creations of glass beads that she offers only once a year...this "show time"
will be only 2 weekends in August...but her work will be on display for the entire
summer.
